Swansea’s significant team revenue in the summer of 2023 was a major contributor to operating expenses, which increased by £4 million in the recent fiscal year.
The club says they have “a significant investment” in the playing team for the fiscal year they are reviewing, and the acquisition cost for player registrations will be £6 million.
Right-back Josh Key, strikers Jerry Yates and Mikola Kuhalevich, centre-back Christian Pedersen and left-back Josh Timon were among the players recruited by Swan after Michael Duff replaced Russell Martin with head coach.
This figure also includes the transfer window for January 2024. Meanwhile, Swansea signed Charles Sagoe JR on loan from Norwich City’s Plzemislaw Puwafeta, Gremio Annapolis’ Ronald and Arsenal.
Swansea’s latest account – not fully publicly available at the company’s home yet — will not include the club’s acquisition last November, when Andy Coleman, Brett Cravatt, Nigel Morris and Jason Cohen purchased shares in former majority owners Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan.
“The board will continue to focus on achieving operational efficiencies to maximize the resources that can be invested in the first team, whilst the magnitude of the operational losses is a product of a highly competitive environment within the EFL Championship where the club is currently competing with.
“The cost of operating the stadium and two training facilities is important and growing.
“In the absence of immediate prospects for a redistributive agreement between the EFL and the Premier League, the club will continue to rely on supporting the owned group as a source of funding.”
Duff was fired midway through the 2023-24 campaign, and Luke Williams was appointed head coach in January 2024.
However, Williams lasted more than a year in the role, with current caretaker boss Alan Sheehan taking charge of swans for the rest of the current season.
