Delaware will try to make history at the CAA tournament on Tuesday. The Blue Hens, the No. 12 seed of the CAA Tournament, will face No. 2 seed UNC Wilmington in the tournament title game and have a chance to become the lowest seeded team to win the conference tournament.
Only double-digit seed won the conference tournament. Xavier won the Atlantic 10 Tournament in 2006, with NC State winning the ACC Tournament as the 10th seed last year.
Delaware surprised first Seed Townson 82-72 to win the fourth game in the last four days and advance to the CAA Tournament Championship Game. The Blue Hens took part in the conference tournament with a 15-19 record, losing six consecutive games before becoming the first double-digit seed to advance to the CAA semifinals since 2002.
Four more automatic bids for the NCAA Tournament will take place on Tuesday, with Slate headlining at the WCC Tournament Finals facing the title’s No. 1 seed St. Mary’s second seed Gonzaga. No in the Northeast Conference Tournament Championship Game. 1-seed Central Connecticut vs. 3 St. Francis and the crown of the Horizon League tournament will win the grab as No. 1 seed Robert Morris faces No. 4 seed Youngstown State.
The Big 12 and ACC will also be the first major meetings to chip off their respective tournaments.
Two more automatic bids for the NCAA Tournament were punched on Monday following the title game of the Sunbelt and Southern Conference Tournament. In the Socon tournament, Wofford beat Furman 92-85 and went on to clinch the appearance of the program’s first NCAA tournament since 2019.
Wofford dragged six points just past 13 minutes remaining in the second half, closing the game with an 11-3 run after Furman played 1:49 to take a short lead. Troy defeated Arkansas 94-81 in the Sun Belt Tournament Championship Game, securing its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2017.
After scoring up to eight points in the second half, the Trojans closed the game on a massive run to win the second Sun Belt title in program history. Troy Coach Scott Cross has won at least 20 games in each of the last four seasons. This is the first time he has led the program to big dance.
