The new NFL league year will not begin until 4pm EST on Wednesday, but the offseason turmoil is in full swing.
Stars receive franchise tags (Tee Higgins and Trey Smith) and pro bowlers trade (Geno Smith, Deebo Samuel, DK Metcalf), franchise quarterbacks receive wages (Matthew Stafford and Josh Allen). That was before the NFL legitimate tampering period began at noon on Monday!
Several well-known deals have already been agreed, as the team was able to negotiate with three impending agents from other clubs. The biggest on Monday was the Seahawks signing a three-year contract worth $105.5 million and the Jets signing a two-year contract worth $40 million with Justin Fields. Elsewhere on the first day, the Patriots added several key defenders for new head coach Mike Vrabel, the Texans swapped the star for left tackle and commander, and the Browns got their original first-round quarterback from the Eagles.
Day 2 brought more moves when quarterback Daniel Jones signed with the Colts on a one-year deal worth $14 million. Meanwhile, the Vikings used Big to protect French fries and defensive tackle Jonathan Allen with the big for guard, and the Texans traded yet another former round offensive lineman.
