In an interview with the BBC, El Rufai said he does not regret supporting President Bora Tinubu in the 2023 election, but was disappointed with the president.
Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai says he consulted President Muhammadu Buhari before he left All Progressive Congress (APC).
El Rufai left APC on March 10 after meeting the former president at Kaduna residence on March 7th. He said he consulted the former president and several other personalities before making the decision.
“I consulted Buhari on Friday. I told him why I was leaving APC and the reactions of other people I consulted.
In an interview, El Rufai said he does not regret supporting President Bora Tinubu in the 2023 election, but was disappointed with the president.
El-Rufai quits APC and joins another party
He also rebutted the narrative that he left the ruling party due to his failed appointment of a minister.
“I said I left the APC because I was not given a minister, but I never chose to become a minister in Tinubu’s minister. I knew people who paid to get the appointment of a minister.
“The President begged me to join the Cabinet and threw a challenge at me to revise the electricity sector, and the President said he wanted to break the jinx and revise the electricity sector, so I accepted the challenge.
El Rufai campaigned for the election of President Bora Tinubu. He was subsequently appointed to the position of minister, but the Senate withheld his confirmation, citing a report from the State Security Agency (SSS).
