Amid the wave of exile in the Social Democrats (SDP), the party’s presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo announced her 2027 presidential ambitions.
Speaking about Arise Television’s “The Morning Show” on Friday, March 14, 2025, Adewole expressed his confidence that he will become a presidential candidate in the next election, regardless of the political height of a politician who has fled to the party.
When asked if he was worried about a “heavy” politician joining the SDP, Adewole said he was not worried about the claim that a well-known politician in exile in the party could push him aside.
Adewole’s comments came after open criticism of Malam Nasir El-Rufai’s exile in the party, and all the dominant progressive parliament (APC) and subsequent resignation of the latter’s exile in the party.
After his exile, El Rufai has been making political moves to plead with some politicians to his new party.
However, the 2023 SDP Flagbearer said he was not afraid or threatened or blackmailed by the asylum, adding that all party members know he will fight again.
“Let’s get something. I don’t worry about it. Everyone who comes in knows that they’ll run in 2027.”
He added, “Anyone who is colic sick feels threatened by those who come to his party can’t become president.”
Adewole also said President Bola Tinubu would be defeated in 2027 and President SDP would emerge.
“Tinub will be removed from power, that’s certainly true, and there will be an SDP president,” he argued.
At the Union, he said the SDP has not yet discussed alliances with any party, adding that parties hoping for a union can approach the party.
