The toxic waste-themed ride at Alton Towers had to be temporarily closed on the first day.
The park’s latest ride, Toxicants, was closed for about an hour on Saturday after nearby areas were evacuated.
Alton Towers opened on Saturdays in the 2025 season at 10am and was open until 8pm at Alton After Dark. Plans for a new ride were announced in January, urging fans to travel to Staffordshire Park.

Some have been queued for more than an hour for toxicants who promise “the scary battlefields of otherworldly aliens, suspicious scientific experiments, military power.”
This ride takes the thrill seeker past the themed props that include barrels of “toxic waste.” The black and yellow branding on the outside of the attraction warns of “overhead splash hazards.”
Over 78 feet tall it can carry over 500 riders per hour. It is the only “topspin” ride in the world to be promoted above the ground, meaning that the audience can see from below.
Members of the masses posted about the incident on social media platform X. “Alton Towers had a toxic event when New Toxykiter Ride began blowing raw sewage to people in their cue.”
“They’re literally too much about toxic substances,” another said, while the third wrote that they wrote toxic substances, but “contains extra toxicity.”
He said some people saw brown liquid at the entrance to the ride and shared photos and videos on social media.
“I know it’s called toxicants, but it’s coming,” one person wrote, sharing a photo of the brown liquid. “The drain is bursting [poo emoji] Anywhere. ”

“Toxic, sewage leaks. There’s a kind of irony about that. Surely, could Alton Towers continue to run it by claiming it was a special toxic experience today?” Another joked with X: “Stop the complaints completely!!!”
A park spokesperson told Manchester Evening News that the issue lies in the burst pipe and “people were back within an hour.”
However, one person wrote, “To be honest, we cleaned it and reopened it for late-night riding,” prompting the theme park staff to quickly praise them.
A spokesman for Alton Towers said: “Due to unexpected burst pipes near the ride, the toxicant temporarily paused operations and the team quickly addressed this issue. The ride and surrounding area are fully reopened and guests are welcome.”
