The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development (MTID) has issued a notice notifying the public of temporary closures of roads at 60km pegs of Harare CBD to promote the construction of the Dema Toll Plaza.
In official duties, the ministry said the closure will last for about five months until August 31, 2025, on March 17, 2025.
“This project is being implemented in accordance with Statutory Equipment 47 (Disaster Declaration, Road Infrastructure Network) for 2021, and the CMED contract will act as a contractor.
“To ensure the safety of all road users and to promote the safe implementation of construction work, the following sections of roads will be temporarily closed: Chiton Witha – Houd Highway at 60km pegs in Harare CBD. Closure period: March 17, 2025 to August 31, 2025.”
Road users are instructed to use available detours to minimize disruption during road rehabilitation operations.
“During this period, all road users are encouraged to use the constructed detours as alternative access points.
“The Ministry sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused during this period and appreciates the cooperation and understanding of the people,” the notice reads.
Zimbabwe’s road condition is a major concern for drivers reporting severe deterioration on highway conditions.
Many share videos and images online that showcase numerous holes and uneven surfaces. The government has been caught in action, holding a photo of the virus, which shows the three of them posing in a massive pothole believed to be along the deplorable Bulawayo Victoria Falls Highway.
The government has launched road rehabilitation programs, but slow progress in these repairs has not met the urgent need for improvement, leaving many roads in dangerous conditions.
