Kagera Water Project is Dr. Eng, Managing Director, National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC). Silver Mugisha will encourage patriotism and collaboration to ensure that projects are delivered on schedule by June.
During inspections at Kikagate in Ishingiro district, Dr Mugisha acknowledged issues affecting progress, including delays in securing permission to lay pipelines through Ketete Road and receding the 1km installation at Ishingiro.
“We are facing several challenges, particularly the clearance of the pipeline through Ketetero Road and delays in Ishingoiro,” Dr Mugisha said.
“However, we are still committed to completing this project, which will significantly improve water supply and improve living standards.”
The 68 million euro project funded by Agence Française de Dévelopement (AFD) includes a drinking water treatment plant, irrigation water production capacity, double water intake and a 60km pipeline.
The electrical and mechanical work has been completed along with pump testing, and the processing plant is currently 85% complete.
Dr Mugisha emphasized the importance of maintaining quality standards throughout the process and captivating stakeholders.
“Continuous stakeholder engagement is essential for smooth execution,” he noted. “Project teams need to be proactive in addressing challenges through effective communication and collaboration.”
Eng, senior director of NWSC Projects and Capital Development. Paddy Twesigye highlighted the impact of the project on both rural and urban communities.
“We are in the final stages, with continuous equipment testing and minimum water flow verification,” Twesigye said.
Once completed, the project is expected to improve water supply in Mbarara city, Ishingori and surrounding areas, and to enhance access to clean water for thousands of residents.
