British-American influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan said they returned to Romania on Friday, where they faced human trafficking and other charges.
“We spent $185,000 (£143,000) on a private jet across the Atlantic, transatlantic ocean, signed a piece of paper and posted it to 10.8 million followers on X,” Andrew Tate said.
The BBC understands that the brothers will appear in court for Monday’s hearing. They strongly deny allegations against them.
The brothers, who are dual US-UK citizens, arrived in the United States at the end of February after Romanian prosecutors lifted a two-year travel ban.
38-year-old Andrew Tate is a self-proclaimed “mymonger” who claims to have made millions from social media despite being previously banned from the platform in his view.
He and his brother Tristan, 36, have been accused of human trafficking and forming an organized group to sexually exploit Romanian women. Andrew Tate is also accused of rape.
The brothers are also subject to another investigation into rape and trafficking allegations in the UK.
In the United States, they faced civil lawsuits from a woman who allegedly forced her to do sex work, and slandered her after she gave evidence to Romanian authorities.
Romanian prosecutors stressed that the lawsuit against the brothers had not been dropped and remained “under judicial control.” This means that they have to report to the authorities regularly and are expected to return to Romania.
But their exits sparked concerns that prosecutors felt political pressure from US President Donald Trump’s administration. The US president said he had no idea about the release of the Tate brothers from Romania.
Tate has a large US follower and is a popular figure among several elements of American rights.
In early February, some of Andrew Tate’s alleged victims said they were “very worried” by reports that US officials had asked him to relax his travel restrictions.
Andrew Tate was subjected to house arrest in Romania in August 2024, and prosecutors launched a second criminal investigation into himself, his brother Tristan, and four other suspects. They all deny cheating.
Apart from that, the brothers hope to face allegations of sexual assault in the UK.
The brothers are also accused of tax evasion in the UK. A British court determined in December 2024 that police could seize more than £2 million ($2.4 million) as police failed to pay taxes on £21 million in revenue from online businesses.
Andrew Tate said the verdict was “not justice,” calling it a “adjusted attack.”
