Jowhar – Somali National Army (SNA) forces, along with local militia, have launched a massive operation against Al-Shabaab in several districts in the Mid-Shabbar region, the military said.
General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, commander of the SNA ground forces, confirmed that considerable efforts are ongoing to eliminate Al-Shabaab from the area as he is stationed on the frontline.
He praised the courage of the SNA and local military for his recent victory over the terrorist groups.
Al-Shabaab is currently facing major attacks, with its bases targeting airstrikes and ground operations.
The dominant group in many parts of Somalia appears to be retreating as they abandoned several previously controlled regions.
Al Shabaab has been responsible for numerous attacks in Mogadishu and elsewhere in the country since launching a war between the Somali government and the AU forces.
