Addis Ababa – Four Ethiopians were killed, and three were injured in an armed conflict in Kukulk Kebele, in the Dasenek district of South Omonzone, along the Ethiopian-Keneya border.
A local resident who requested anonymity told Addis Standard that 11 Ethiopian youths from Dasenek district went to Kukruk for reconnaissance when they met an armed group.
“There were 11 young people from our area. The other side outperformed them and when the battle began, they killed four of our people,” he said, adding that one elder from Turkana was also killed.
Dasenech District Chief Representative Mesay Leben confirmed the victim and said three injured people were undergoing treatment at Omorate Health Center.
He further stated the following day, on Sunday, March 23, 2025, an armed individual in Turkana launched another attack at Goloquebele, attempting to steal hundreds of cattle. “The local community was able to resist, fight and recover their livestock,” he said.
The incident follows ongoing violence in the Deisenek district of the South Omozone along the Ethiopian Kenya border. Addis Standard previously reported that at least 13 people died on February 23, 2025, and that two others were seriously injured in attacks at Siyes and Sirmeret Kebeles.
Residents added that the attackers plundered six boats, 130 fishing nets and up to 500,000 dried fish, and violent violence drove thousands of people from multiple kebers, including Kukruk. He argued that the armed group was seen using military vehicles and accused the “Kenya security forces” of being involved in the conflict.
