Former Spanish football president Angel Maria Villard was replaced by Luis Luviarez in 2017, but is now facing charges of corruption and embezzlement.
The Spanish prosecutor’s office is seeking 15.5 years in prison for former Spanish football federation President Angel Maria Villard on suspicion of corruption and embezzlement.
The contracts that were sorted out under Villar between 2007 and 2017 are allegedly scamming the federal figure for over $4.84 million.
Eight people, including Villar’s son Gorka, are linked to the prosecutors seeking a seven-year sentence and the case that includes former Spanish Vice President of the Football Federation (RFEF).
Villar was suspended from his role as president in 2017 due to alleged involvement in what became known as the Soule incident after 29 years led the Commonwealth.
In Thursday’s indictment seen by news agency AFP, Villar is charged with embezzlement, corruption of business, misappropriation of funds and tampering with documents.

The former president should benefit himself and his son by arranging friendly matches with the Spanish national team and building contracts around them.
Prosecutors said Villar chose certain Spanish opponents to benefit.
The alleged matches arranged to benefit Villar and his son were friendly against South Korea, Chile, Venezuela, Peru and Colombia.
Villar was taken over by Louis Luviarez. Luis Luviales resigned dishonestly in 2023 after forcing a kiss to women’s World Cup player Jenni Hermoso amid a federal crisis-stricken spell.
Pedro Rocha took over temporarily, but was suspended beyond his duties before Rafael Luzan was elected as new RFEF president in December 2024.
