Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) deployed officers in urban and rural areas to block the March 31 protest against President Emmerson Mnangawa’s government.
Political tensions are at a boiling point, and Zanu-PF’s faction fight peaks when dissatisfied members push for the expulsion of Mnangagwa.
In a statement, ZRP said its officers will be deployed in residential areas on the surface to maintain peace and order.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police recognizes the peaceful environment currently available within the country and urges its public to continue to take on social and economic activities without any obstacles.
“In the same way, police have deployed members to maintain law and order in both urban and rural areas set up in all parts of the country,” read the statement.
The deployment comes after ZRP publicly bans carrying machetes and shafts to Harare and Bulawayo.
The planned protests have destabilized the government, which vowed to suppress the demonstrations.
The ZRP warned that they would not hesitate to arrest people who incite protests.
“The law definitely takes that course for individuals and groups seeking to undermine the peace and security of the country, including those who use social media to raise alarms and disappointments among Zimbabweans.
“Therefore, the public should work with deployed police officers to report anyone inciting violence and interference in smooth traffic flows across the country,” read the statement further.
