BRAZZAVILLE – A virtual live candidates forum will be held on Wednesday, April 2nd, 2025 from 9:30 to 16:00 Brazzaville Time as part of the election process for Africa’s next World Health Organization Regional Director.
The virtual forum agreed by the regional WHO member states is one of the measures adopted to enhance transparency in the election process. It will be presided by the prestigious Louise Maple Kupoteau, Liberian Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Louise Maple Kupoteau, and the current first vice-chairman of the African Regional Committee.
The forum is a platform for candidates to detail their experience and expertise, presenting a vision of what they want to achieve during their tenure, who and who will fulfill whom’s duties in the African region.
The five candidates (in the alphabetical order of the country) are as follows:
Dr. Michel Nda Conan Yao was proposed by Dr. Kote d’Ivoire Dr. Mohamed Ramin Drame, proposed by Professor Janabi Mohamed Yakubu, Guinea, proposed by Mr. Morzania Mijiyawa.
Each candidate will give a presentation within 20 minutes.
Choosing a question
Each member state participating in the virtual forum may ask whether it wants to. Member States have been invited by March 26, 2025 at 17:00pm at Brazzaville, by who.int (ait) (Governingbodiesafro (at)int) and Bodiesafro (at)int) to indicate the candidates who want to ask questions by writing Bodiesafro (at) to the next email address (at). Tokens carrying the name of the Member State they wish to ask questions will be placed in the associated bag (one per candidate). Member States appointed as candidates are not expected to ask the candidates who nominated the question.

After each candidate gives a verbal presentation, the chairs choose one token, one at a time, until the allocated time is exhausted. After each token is drawn, the corresponding member state is invited to ask questions, and the candidate is invited to provide an answer.
Questions and Answers
Member States can only ask one question for up to 1 minute. Multiple parts questions are not allowed. Candidates will take up to three minutes to answer each question. Each interview ends when 40 minutes have passed since the interview, even if there are pending questions. However, candidates are permitted to complete answers to questions addressed after 40 minutes have passed.
Timekeeping
A clock will be displayed on the screen to help participants stay within time limits during both parts of the interview.
