NAIROBI – Eight suspects involved in the Land Ministry’s Land Fraud Syndicate have been arrested after multiple agencies crackdowns that began on March 28th.
The Criminal Investigation Bureau (DCI) says those arrested include aides from the Ministry of Land – Kenya investigations and government press printers.
“On raids on their facility, authorities recovered an assortment of land-related documents, including numerous title deeds, numerous blank assigned characters, 287 different stamps, 11 unused green cards, certificates of titles, and forged transfer documents,” DCI said.
The investigator suspects that eight people are issuing and using forged titles to illegally take ownership of property.
The agency, led by Amin Mohammed, began its investigation after numerous reports from landowners who discovered individuals using fake documents to build structures on the land.
“The suspect has already been arrested at Mirimani Law Court, and detectives are given additional time to complete investigations of other individuals related to the fraud network and pursue leads,” DCI said.
The research body expressed concern that involvement of individuals from various sectors would raise questions regarding the integrity of operations at the Ministry of Land.
“Pollution is seen as an important step in protecting property rights and restoring public confidence in the land management system,” DCI said.
