The rise in the death toll from Boccos murders led to concerns about increasing instability in many parts of the country in the 2023 presidential election.

On Wednesday night, April 2, 2025, an armed man invaded five communities into the Boccos local government area of Plateau Province, killing 10 people.

By Thursday, more than 40 bodies have been recovered in local government areas as additional bodies were reportedly found.

In response to the tragedy, Obi condemned the “meaningless attack” on families in the Boccos community.

“I woke up this morning reading yet another gory and deeply tragic report from Boccos in Plateau Province. The whole family was once again massacred in another meaningless attack. The child and pregnant woman were inevitably absent.

“Five communities of Boccos, five communities of Tamiso, Duffo, Manguna, Harti and Tadai are in mourning, being forced to bury their loved ones in large tombs.

“How long will these killings, tricks, attacks, crimes last in our country? How long should we be in the war, how decisive should we focus on this dramatic situation that is crippling our country? Should we die before the government acts for the people?” he asked.

The former governor of Anambra state said it was becoming a normal event of murder and temptation, adding that anxiety is very widespread in the country where Nigerians now live in fear.

“We are now normalizing mass murder and mass burial as our country’s way of life. Nigerian life is sacred, including Edo, Benu, Enugu, Borno, Anambra, Ondo, Plateau.

The community is now living in fear, and is not making a living, either on the farm or on the market, without being killed, lured, suffered. Communities such as Boccos in Plateau, Jatoaka in Benue, Eha Amhu in Enugu, Uhuma in Anambra and Aba Oymbo in Ondo are worthy of government protection,” Obi said.

Therefore, he asked the federal government to “end this grief and fear, which has become very unacceptable.”

“The government and security agencies must ensure that these killings are stopped, concrete steps are taken to prevent future events, and that those arrested face the justice they deserve,” he said.
