Kiss Mayo – Jubaland has sent a large detachment of elite Jabaland’s Darvish forces north to northern Juba to bolster efforts to confront Al-Shabaab militants and take the area away from extremist control, officials said Friday.
State television broadcast images of well-equipped troops moving towards the combat zone on Thursday, exploding the attack with Somali national soldiers and international supporters.
According to local authorities, the development has dealt with a fierce setback in the presence of jihadists, following the successful collaboration between the Somali Danab Commando and the Jubaland unit, which recently destroyed the region’s key al-Shabaab base.
Jubaland leaders vowed to target the militant Held Pocket in the lower and central Juba, with the aim of liberating the territory and paving the way for civilian rule.
Push reportedly struck Jirib, the main fortress of Al Shab in the south, killing many fighters and casting the group’s leadership into chaos weeks after a catastrophic air strike loaded with foreign support by Somali forces.
This latest escalation reflects a broader strategy to dismantle al-Shabaab’s long-standing rule in southern Somalia, where the group has thrived amid years of unrest.
