UConn held the season first in the Associated Press’ Top 25 Women’s Basketball Poll on Monday, a day after winning the 12th National Championship.
The Husky received all 31 votes from the national media panel after Genoorienma’s team defeated South Carolina 82-59 in the title. The Gamecocks, which started the season in No. 1, were their second unanimous choice.
A record five teams took first place in the AP Top 25 this year. South Carolina, UCLA, Notre Dame and Texas were also first at some point this season. No. 3 UCLA and No. 4 Texas both won the Final 4, with USC finishing fifth.

It was the first time UConn was in first place since the team ended the 2021 season like that. It was also the 17th overall that the Husky has finished in the top spot. This year, the Husky has ended the longest drought that won’t end the season for five consecutive years, from 2003 to 2008.
TCU, Duke, LSU, Wolfpack, NC and Notre Dame rounded out the top 10.
It is the second year that AP announced its final vote after the NCAA title game. In the past, the last top 25 votes were released the day after the NCAA Selection Show.
Rising Terrapin
Maryland made one of the biggest jumps in the vote after nearly knocking off South Carolina at Sweet 16. Terrapin rose to 12th on the 18th.
in the middle
Ole Miss rose to 17th place to eight places after reaching Sweet 16, where the Rebels lost to UCLA. This is the first time a team has participated in the final poll since the team was ranked 24th in 1996.
Meeting breakdown
The Southeastern Conference ended the season with eight ranked teams. There are five each of the ACC, Big Ten and Big 12, while the Big East and Summit Leagues have one each.
