The Prime Minister has launched a visit to Governor Assut, in the upper Egyptian Period by inspecting the newly renovated Manfarat Central Hospital, highlighting that healthcare is a top priority for the government, and President Abdel Fatta El-Sisi continues to follow advances in healthcare development across the country.

The Prime Minister has confirmed that the government is aiming to expand its services to underserved rural areas and is working closely with both the local and international private sectors to improve the quality of healthcare and ensure the sustainability of the new projects.

Deputy Prime Minister, Human Development Prime Minister and Health Minister Khaled Abdel Gaffer emphasized that health is at the heart of Egypt’s development strategy during his hospital visit. He said that there has been a record-breaking investment in healthcare over the past decade, consistent with the government’s vision of comprehensive compensation and citizens’ well-being. It also provides incentives to encourage private sector participation in healthcare projects.

For the fiscal year 2024-2025, 20 national healthcare projects are planned with 11 governors, adding an EGP of 11.7 billion Egyptian total and 2,649 hospital beds. At Assiut, 13 projects have already been completed since 2014, and are worth more than 1 billion EGP, he said. These include renovations to Manfarath Central Hospital and other important developments, including upgrades to a heat hospital and the construction of a family development centre, he said. An additional 11 projects are currently underway at Assiut, with a total of more than EGP 3 billion, he added.

In the “decent living” presidential initiative, he said 97 health facilities in seven districts of Assiut have been upgraded or newly constructed. Future, 12 new projects are planned for fiscal year 2025-2026, with an estimate of EGP of 1.2 billion, including the development of El-Qusiya Hospital, he said.

National Project Assistant Minister Anwar Ismail reviewed Assiut’s health care system, which currently includes 19 hospitals, 2,562 hospitalized beds, 310 intensive care units, 186 ventilators, 514 dialysis machines, 357 infant incubators, 127 ambulances and 64 emergency stations.

The newly developed Manfarat Central Hospital covers an area of ​​12,726 square meters and serves more than 700,000 residents in the area. This includes departments of emergency, outpatient care, surgery, birth, dialysis, intensive care (for adults and children), neonatal incubators, endoscopy, physiotherapy, radiology, labs, blood banks, drugs, and plasma collection centres. The hospital has 151 beds, including 30 ICU beds and 30 incubators, 17 specialty clinics, 42 dialysis machines, 4 operating rooms and 2 endoscopic units, and medical staff accommodation.

During his visit, the Prime Minister toured multiple departments, including emergency rooms, ICUs, dialysis units, neonatal care and surgical areas. He personally checked ICU patients who expressed appreciation for the quality of care they received. Madbouly highlighted the need to combine advanced medical devices with highly qualified staff. Abdel Ghaffar has confirmed that Assiut University officials are being employed to achieve this goal. The visit ended with group photos with the hospital’s medical team.
