Foreign Minister Madame Sarah Bethorrow Nyanti visited the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to seek Saudi Arabia’s approval of Liberia’s bid for non-permanent seats in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), highlighting Liberia’s commitment to global peace and security.
The visit, Wednesday, April 9, was also intended to strengthen existing friendly relations between the two countries and explore potential areas of cooperation in political, economic and developmental efforts.
In a meeting with senior Saudi Arabian officials, Foreign Minister Nyanti expressed his gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s long-standing support for Liberia, particularly highlighting the contribution and assistance to the Muslim community that has been provided to various initiatives.
She also praised the Saudi government for a generous donation of US$2 million for renovation work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, part of wider support from the Saudi Arabian Development Fund. Additionally, Foreign Minister Nyanti thanked Saudi Arabia for food aid and 50 tonnes of donation to support Liberia’s humanitarian needs.
She specifically highlighted Saudi Arabia’s continued support for Liberia, and the kingdom’s contribution to Liberia’s Muslim community, including providing pilgrimage slots.
Liberian Foreign Minister Nyanti also discussed Liberian development priorities and encouraged increased Saudi Arabia investment in the agriculture, infrastructure and energy sectors to enhance the development trajectory of Liberia and increase the well-being of its citizens.

President Joseph Nyuma Boachey, senior enthusiasm to strengthen cooperation with Saudi Arabia, was communicated by Minister Nyanti, who emphasized Liberia’s enthusiasm for mutually beneficial relationships.
In her remarks, Foreign Minister Nyanti conveyed a message of solidarity from President Joseph Neema Boachey, who is eager to work closely with the King of Saudi Arabia to further deepen cooperation between the two countries.
She affirmed Liberia’s commitment to building mutually beneficial relationships with Saudi Arabia, focusing on economic, technological and cultural collaboration.
Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed A. Elkhereiji praised Liberia’s political stability and peaceful transition, and recognized Liberia’s positive examples of Africa.
He repeatedly supported Saudi Arabia’s support for Liberia’s UN Security Council candidate, guaranteeing continued support for Liberia’s development efforts, highlighting collaborations on key sectors and global peace initiatives.
In response to Foreign Minister Nyanti’s request for further bilateral cooperation, Deputy Minister Elkelizi has assured the Saudi Arabian Minister’s continued commitment to supporting Liberia’s development priorities, particularly in agriculture, infrastructure and electricity.
He also highlighted the importance of addressing geopolitical issues that could destabilise global peace that could have ripple effects across Africa.
The parties affirmed their shared commitment to foster bilateral relations and concluded the visit by working together towards the peace, development and prosperity of their country.
