MOGADISH – The Somali Ministerial Council praised the ongoing military operations aimed at liquidating al-Shabaab militants from regions around the country in a regular session chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Bale on Thursday.
The Minister was briefed on recent security developments, particularly successful military attacks in several regions.
According to the report presented, Somali security forces and local fighters of the alliance took a major loss to extremist groups and freed multiple regions from their control.
The Cabinet praised the courage of Somali forces and community-based fighters participating in the counterterrorism campaign.
The council also emphasized the need to accelerate support for frontline forces and strengthen coordination between security agencies and the local community.
Additionally, the Council of Ministers has approved a bilateral agreement between Somalia and Egypt that will waive visa requirements for diplomatic passport holders.
Under the new agreement, eligible travelers from both countries can enter and stay without a visa in other countries for up to 90 days.
