Milan’s manager Sergio Conseikao praised home fans for the support they showed to Mainyan and cheered them on when they were brought off the pitch.
“It impressed me. The players on the ground, the confusion around him… I have to praise Udinese fans,” Connecao told Sky Sports.
Maignan was the victim of racial abuse by a home fan when Milan last played for Udinese in January 2024.
He and his teammates left the pitch for 10 minutes after reporting the abuse to the referee, and Serie A later ordered Udinese to play the match behind a closed door as punishment.
“The player is one thing, the guy is another,” Konsei Kao said. “They can boo players, but guys can’t.
“The applause was an incredible gesture. In 40 years of football, I saw very few gestures like that.”
Rafael Leo and Strahinja Pablovic scored in Milan in the first half, while Theo Hernandez and Tijani Reiju scored in the final 15 minutes of the game.
Milan will host Atalanta in the league on April 20th, facing rival Inter Milan in the second round of the Coppa Italia semi-final on April 23rd, with a tie level of 1-1.
