A combination of results on Tuesday led the Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues to round out two wild card spots at the Western Conference, eliminating Calgary’s flames from the postseason contest.
On the other side of the continent, the Columbus Blue Jacket has won regulations against the Philadelphia Flyers, leaving their slim chances intact. Will they be watching Team No. 16 clinching in the playoff field on Wednesday, or will Thursday’s game be the deciding factor?

Carolina Hurricane in the Montreal Canadian
7pm (ESPN+)
This is the most important game of the night with a significant margin. The Canadiens won the second Eastern wild card spot due to any kind of victory or loss in overtime/fire battles. The only thing that keeps the hopes of the blue jacket intact is Montreal’s regulatory loss. It is unknown which type of roster the hub will face from the cane. The latter is because for some time, he has been trapped in second place on the Metro.
Winnipeg Jets’ Anaheim Ducks
7pm (ESPN+)
The duck will not end up in 9th or below on lottery orders. They took part in the game with 79 points, and the lower teams have more than 82. But following the losses here, Saber could be the seventh highest with Penguins and Saber wins on Thursday. The Jets recently locked the President’s Trophy as the NHL’s top regular season team (and the number one seed as long as they last in the playoffs).
Detroit Red Wings of the New Jersey Devils
7:30pm (TNT)
The Wings are currently 12th in the draft lottery order, with 83 points and 29 restrictions winning and can move up to 10th (if the islanders win on Thursday and lose the next two games). Like the Hurricane, the Devil has been locked in playoff positions for a while, with the Carolinas matching in Round 1.
Dallas stars in the Nashville Predators
8pm (ESPN+)
The two teams on the other side of the central division are also unable to move based on the outcome of this game. The Stars opens Central’s second-place playoffs against the third-seeded Colorado Avalanche, but the predators are locked up in third place on lottery orders.
Vegas Golden Knights at Vancouver Canucks
10pm (TNT)
And then there’s a pair of Pacific division teams whose results tonight won’t change their rankings. The Golden Knights recently won the No. 1 seed in the Pacific division, with the Canucks locked up as the No. 15th team on draft lottery orders.
Edmonton Oilers of the San Jose Sharks
10:30pm (ESPN+)
…And here too, there’s another pair of Pacific teams already trapped. San Jose has been number one in their recently decided position for quite some time on draft lottery orders. Meanwhile, the Oilers will be the third seeded in the Pacific Division bracket and take on the Los Angeles Kings, who was second seeded in Round 1.

The NHL uses draft lottery to determine the order of the first round, so teams finishing at the last place are not guaranteed to choose No. 1. As of 2021, teams can raise up to 10 spots if they win the lottery, so only 11 teams are eligible for the first place pick. Learn more about this process here. Matthew Schaefer, the defender of OHL’s Erie Otters, is number one on the draft board.
