Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police have ordered the leader of Chama Chamocracyanama Endeo (Chadema) to immediately suspend plans to mobilize supporters to gather at the Magistrates’ Court of Kistu residents on April 24th.
Speaking to the media, Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander Jumannumuriro said police were closely monitoring statements made by some Chadema leaders through media and social networks, encouraging a massive number of citizens to appear on the day that opposition politician Tundu Lis is expected to appear.
“There are clear indications that some of these leaders are planning to incite chaos and violence to pressure legal authorities to make decisions based on public protests.
He emphasized that the courts are independent bodies tasked with providing justice and must be permitted to perform their duties without interference from individuals or organizations.
Police issued a harsh warning that strict legal action will be taken against anyone involved in instigation or planning measures that threaten public peace.
“We are giving strong warnings to all those who are malignant and will not try to disrupt the peace in our cities,” Commander Muriro emphasized.
He also called on residents of Dar es Salaam to tackle their daily activities as usual and avoid political propaganda that could endanger the stability of the city.
Police further said they will strengthen security measures, particularly in all key areas around the Kisttu Court, to ensure legal proceedings are carried out in a peaceful and safe environment.
