The Ukrainian government has announced a signature on a summary of the mineral trade between the war-torn country and the United States.
Economy Minister Julia Swillidenko said the memorandum of intention paved the way for what she called the economic partnership agreement.
She said the final agreement also includes an investment fund to rebuild Ukraine. US officials have expressed hope that the agreement could be completed by the end of next week.
Donald Trump’s public match with Ukrainian President Voldy Mie Zelensky held at the White House in February temporarily blew negotiations off the course.
Svyrydenko has announced the signing of the memorandum on X, but did not provide details.
Her post included a photo of her and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent, signed separately.
“We will let you announce our signatures with our American partners about the intent of the memorandum.
The signature was made in an online call with Bessent, who said the transaction details were still resolved.
“That’s something we agreed previously. When will the President be? [Volodymyr Zelensky] We were here and there was a memorandum. We went in person for a big deal, but I think it’s an 80-page deal. That’s what we sign,” he said.
Donald Trump also hinted at the deal at a press conference with Italian leader Giorgia Meloni.
“I think we’ll sign it on Thursday… next Thursday. Soon. And I think they’ll handle the deal.
The White House did not respond to requests for details regarding the timing and content of the contract, Reuters reported.
The move is a step towards a deal that will allow the US to access Ukraine’s key minerals, as well as oil and gas.
Previous reports showed that “investment funds” were set up for the reconstruction of Ukraine and managed by Kiev and Washington on “equal terms.”
President Volodymyr Zelensky wanted to use the deal to ensure US security in his country in the event of a ceasefire deal with Russia.
However, the plan was derailed in February by a fierce clash between Zelensky and Trump at the White House.
