There is a discussion about the formation of a British cricket team that can compete at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Consultations between the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket Scotland began to establish Team GB side as the sport prepares to return to the game.
Trudi Lindblade, CEO of Cricket Scotland, told BBC Radio 4: [we’re] In the process of establishing a Team GB Cricket Entity.
“That’s what the British Olympic Association (BOA) requires that British teams compete in the Olympics.”
The ECB confirmed these discussions with BBC Sports.
The Olympic Cricket event at LA 2028 will be held as a T20 tournament for six teams, both male and female, the International Olympic Committee announced last week.
“So for us, six teams, we’ll have the opportunity through the GB concept,” Lindblade said.
Participating teams can lead a team of up to 15 players onto the field, but the qualification process has not been confirmed yet.
“There’s a lot about how these six teams, as well as how GB teams qualify, if we have a choice among them, how the qualification will be done,” Lindblade added.
“So, an exciting time, and we will continue to work with our colleagues at ECB and LA 2028 and ICC. That would be interesting.”
His only previous appearance at the Olympics in Cricket was in Paris in 1900.
On that occasion, the UK won the one-off final against 158 France after the Netherlands and Belgium retreated.
BOA hopes to join the men’s football team in the 2028 game in August, uniting the football associations in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and to score the field on the first team GB Men’s Olympic side since London 2012.
The UK was a nominee country trying to qualify on behalf of Team GB for women’s football competition in the Paris 2024 game, but they were short on international league campaigns.
