We recommend attending the 10th Ago A AgoA CSO Network Spring Conference on April 23, 2025 at the 2020 Rayburn House Office Building in Capitol Hill, Washington, DC and online. We look forward to your participation in our advocacy efforts and appreciate your insightful contributions.
This year’s theme, strengthen us – African trade and economic cooperation under the Trump administration is particularly relevant given President Trump’s first American policy and recent announcements on tariffs on tariffs from the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
The conference presents civil society organizations, private companies, government agencies, and other stakeholders in the US and Africa to discuss key trade policies. Participation in these discussions is extremely important. This is because it aims to devise recommendations and actions that are consistent with the administration’s first policy, and to strengthen US-Africa trade and economic cooperation beyond a 90-day suspension on mutual tariffs.
The event offers a unique and valuable opportunity to engage with trade and foreign policy experts and contribute to the discussions that will shape the future of trade and economic relations between the US and Africa. Work together towards a prosperous future through strengthened collaboration and partnerships.
About agoa
The African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) was signed into law in 2000 and has since been the basis for US (US) economic policy and business-related engagement with sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) countries. Agoa strengthened its economic ties with Africa, competing with its global competitors, promoting regional stability, and promoting approximately 500,000 direct and indirect employment in the US and the creation of 1,000,000 positions across the SSA.
Africa, the main consumer hub of the future, is a market that US companies cannot afford to ignore. The continent’s young population and the rapidly growing middle class are driving demand for industrial products 1.5 times the global average. With some of the fastest growing economies in the world, Africa offers enormous trade and investment potential. The continent’s essential mineral and energy resources abundance is essential to global supply chains, further enhancing the appeal of US businesses and US national security.
About the agoa cso network
The AGOA Civil Society (CSO) Network is a consortium of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), small and medium-sized enterprise representatives, the Chamber of Commerce and other groups in the US and Africa, and has succeeded in benefiting the people of America and Africa.
Thirteen (102) CSO participants from the US and Africa who participated in the Agoa Civil Society Forum in Phoenix, Mauritius on January 17, 2003, established the AgoA CSO network. The African Foundation for Democracy (FDA) and the Mauritius Social Services Council were elected as co-chairs and were empowered to establish and manage the secretariat of the Agoa CSO network. The Network Secretariat was required to make all necessary preparations for the subsequent Agoa Civil Society sessions of the annual Agoa Forum. The FDA has continued to manage the AgoA CSO network since its inception and is a strong advocate for US-Africa trade and economic cooperation.
The AgoA CSO network is committed to improving the volume and quality of Africa’s exports under Agoa. It also prioritizes educating stakeholders on both sides of the Atlantic on this trade policy and its many benefits. By providing this knowledge, you can make informed decisions and contribute to the growth of US-Africa trade.
