Dakar – Several officers from the Burkinabe army have been arrested, two of whom reportedly released their duties as corps commanders. Several supporters of the junta proposed attempts to hold their fingers at the exiled soldiers. No further action was taken.
According to the RFI, Judge Commander Frederick Uedraogo, former commander of the Military Judicial Battalion, is one of the officers arrested.
The latter was investigating the shooting death of Ismael Tuhogobo on October 23, allegedly involved in the attempted coup, according to security sources. Military prosecutors have since suggested that the arrest was “incorrect.”
Elysée Tassembedo Great, commander of the Northern Sector Security Forces Group based in Ouahigouya, was captured at Ouagadougou while he was attending the meeting.
Captain Ibrahim Traore, the transitioning president, quickly replaced the arrested officer without designating it. The Atnosphere within the army is said to be tense, and there are slammed gazes directed at former officers who have already been expelled from the army, security sources said.
