Addis Ababa – Las Anod officials have confirmed the death of Farah Aidid Jama, who is reportedly an official at the Ethiopian Consulate in Garou, the capital of Somali’s Pantoland province.
Officials attribute his murder to Al Shabaab terrorist groups on Sunday, April 20, according to local Somaliland media reports.
The letter dated January 13, 2025, allegedly written by the Ethiopian Consulate General of Pantoland, was spread by local outlets, referring to the designation of Farah Idied as a community coordinator and advocate for the local Ethiopian citizens. A letter signed by Yidnekachew Tekele, Chargéd’Affaires, stated that his mission is “to coordinate, support and report to the consulate in the border area for current conditions. Addis Standard did not confirm the credibility of the letters.
To date, the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not officially confirmed the death of Farah Aided Jamaa. And even if he was an active officer at the Ethiopian Consulate in Garou at the time of his murder.
East Sur authorities have also not issued a full statement on the issue, and an investigation into the assassination is ongoing.
Speaking to local media, however, AVV Cabdillaahi Xirsi, the Attorney General of the East Sur administration, confirmed that Farah Aidid Jama was killed in Ras Anod by an unidentified gunman whom he identified as a suspicious member of Al Shabaab. The attacker has not been arrested yet.
According to the Attorney General, Farah was accused of from his residence in Ras Anod and was “brutally tortured and then executed.” His body, with serious signs of physical abuse, was found to have been abandoned in the Ceelka Goojacade Valley, on the outskirts of the city.
“He was hit badly and then shot. His body shows signs of torture,” Horn Diplomat said attorney general AVV Cabdillaahi.
