In his remarks, Zamfara’s commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening education in the state.

Zamfara State Educational Institutions have recorded a significant increase in student registration and graduation throughout the state.

The agency’s executive director, Bala Tafida, made the disclosures on Tuesday during a visit to the Education, Science and Technical Committee of Wadatau Madhawaki in Gusou.

Tafida said several milestones were credited by the institution, including the receipt of N200,000 donations from Zakat and the Fund Committee of Zamfara and the distribution of learning materials from the Nomadic Education Board.

He added that the agency has witnessed the mass enrolment and graduation of students from nomadic schools across the state.

“We have also received support pledges from several government agencies, including the Local Government and the Ministry of Science, the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, the Commerce of Public Education, the Agency for Community Social Development (CSDA), and the Fadama III Program,” he said.

However, Tafida raised concerns about the shortage of teachers in nomadic schools, saying agencies must resort to attracting volunteer teachers.

Therefore, he appealed to the state government to either increase their monthly cash allocation (CA) or to absorb volunteers into state salaries.

According to him, volunteer scholarships consume more than half of the institutional allocation.

“Therefore, education is the foundation of any society, and there is an urgent need for governments to recruit qualified teachers to manage nomadic schools.”

In his remarks, Madhawaki reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening education in the state.

The commissioner said that once the ongoing civil servant verification committee concludes its assignment, recruiting new teachers will begin.

He also directed the agency to submit the names of absent teachers for appropriate disciplinary action and promised to follow up with the organization that pledged support for the agency.
