Load stopped when Eskom Power Generation recovered
Power Utility Eskom has suspended load limits after generating capacity of approximately 2,015 megawatts, expected drop in electricity demand, and recovering appropriate emergency reserves, SABC News reports. Eskom announced the implementation of a Stage 2 load from 4pm to 5am on Friday, due to higher than expected demand, losses in generational units and extensive planned maintenance. Eskom spokesman Daphne Mokwena said planned maintenance is ongoing to prepare a system to meet winter demand, regulated requirements and ensure environmental compliance.
Gauteng and Kwazul Natal on vigilance for severe thunderstorms and floods
Residents of Gauteng and Kwazulu-Natal (KZN) have been warned to prepare for continuous weather weather in the rain, and the South African Weather Service (SAWS) is issuing a Level 4 warning due to serious thunderstorms, SABC News reports. Both states have recently experienced severe weather, and saws have shown that wet conditions are expected to last throughout the week. Residents in lowland areas, informal settlements and near rivers were urged to avoid crossing the waters during heavy rains. Yellow Level 4 warnings for most parts of Gauteng showed a drop in temperature along with scattered showers and severe thunderstorms, and orange Level 5 warnings were issued in the southern part of the state. Forecast Officer Lerojonolo Tobera said there was a risk of localized flooding, wind damage, hail and excessive lightning. KZN residents were urged to take caution as extreme weather conditions could lead to state forecasts that could lead to flooding and further damage to infrastructure.
MK Party demands Godongwana’s resignation over VAT’s reverse decision
The Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party has called for the resignation of Finance Minister Enoch Gadongwana after overturning its decision to implement a value-added tax (VAT), SABC News reports. Godongwana announced that the proposed hike will no longer be affected. MK Executive Director Floyd Shivhambu spoke to his supporters in the case of Jacob Zuma of Pietermaritzburg, claiming that Godonwana should resign immediately. However, the African National Congress (ANC) firmly supported the minister, and Chief Secretary Fikire Mbarara declared that Godongwana would remain in his position, citing that Godongwana would consult with political parties and comply with his duties.
