WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Secretary of State Marco Rubio convened the signing of a Declaration of Principles between the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Government of the Republic of Rwanda.
Foreign Minister Thérès Kayi Kwamba Wagner signed on behalf of the DRC government, while Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe signed on behalf of the Rwandan government. Senior Advisor to Massad Boulos of Africa, Deputy Chief Christopher Landau and Ambassador Troy Phitrell also joined Secretary Rubio on the occasion.
The declaration is based on the efforts of the African Union and other regional leaders. It outlines the path to peace, stability and integrated economic development in the eastern DRC region, which is essential to end the conflict and enable the region to achieve its full potential.
The United States will continue to engage with both countries to support the principles of the Declaration and to support important work towards peace and prosperity.
