Defence is questionable, especially in fullback positions, but even Virgil van Dik’s decision to sign a new contract may not rule out an addition at centreback.
Trent Alexander Arnold is expected to join Real Madrid on a free transfer, but Andrew Robertson is 31 years old and speculates that Bournemouth’s Hungarian left wing Milos Kerkez will arrive as his successor.
Former Liverpool and British midfielder Danny Murphy told BBC Sports: [Gomez] Jarrell Quanza. The minutes they’ve played this season are very limited so he suggests to me that he wants some backup there.
“Virgil is coming to 34, so they’re going to want to get people who play a lot of games.
“There were rumours about Dean Huyssen from Bournemouth, Bournemouth is a very young talent, but I would like to see someone a little more under the line in their development.
“The names that come to mind aren’t easy and perhaps not impossible, but I think of Mickey Van de Ben of Spurs, Mark Guech of Crystal Palace, and Jarrad Brantwaite of Everton.
“They’re used to the Premier League, everything is different. Van de Ven has a lightning pace. Garhi has physicality, but he’s not at his biggest, but true calm and leadership.
“If we can guarantee that Gomez is right, we may not run out of budget there. Van Dick’s durability at his age is equally good, and I think we’ll see the centre half, although it’s a big reason why Liverpool was so good.”
Liverpool’s immediate defensive priority is on the left back, but the appearance of 21-year-old Connor Bradley provided what appears to be an ideal alternative at the right back as Alexander Arnold leaves.
Murphy said: “In an ideal world, you might want to take people to both fullback positions, but if you’re looking at the middle defender and two fullbacks, you’re going to get into the forward position and maybe one midfielder.
“The praised slot suggests that Bradley will be in that right backbirth when Trent leaves.
