One firefighter is being treated at a hospital, and about 198 homes, including frail care centers, are evacuated as fires continue to rage on the mountain slopes of Cape Town
The impacts include Ou Kaapse Weg, Clovelly, Tokai, Boyes Drive and surrounding communities. Fire and Rescue squads have fought wildfires all night, with support from Table Mountain National Park, along with about 250 city firefighters who worked for the NCC, volunteer wildfire services.
The only damage reported was a report of a vehicle that got out in a parking lot at Silvermine. This is a statement read on Monday morning.
Jermaine Carrells, a spokesman for the city’s fire rescue team, confirmed that the injured female firefighter was taken to hospital for treatment.
“As of Sunday night, the fire was creeping up Boys Drive, Calk Bay and Fishhawk side, but on the side of the oukaapse weg it moved towards the Nordhek.
Carelse said the emergency team is closely monitoring the situation. He urged the public to stay away from these areas. Several road closures remain.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that three separate fires were intentionally launched simultaneously on Friday.
