Exeter Chair Tony Lowe has stopped coaches Rob Hunter and Ali Heffer after the Chiefs’ record-breaking defeat against Gloucester in the Gallagher Premiership.
Hunter took over Heffer from Heffer in March, and Heffer took on the role of overseeing the back of Exeter and overseeing offensive strategy until the end of this season.
Exeter has won just three premiership games this semester, and he unraveled it brilliantly at Kingsholm, losing 79-17 and admitting 13 attempts.
TV footage showed that animated Lowe spoken about his heart when he spoke to the players and coaches in the dressing room after the match.
Exeter said Lowe has made the decision to “pending the full review of the match and the 2024/25 season.”
Rowe said: “There has been no final decision on future club coaching structures and it would be inappropriate to make further comments until all internal procedures have been completed.”

The club added that longtime rugby director Rob Baxter will oversee the rest of the semester as he stepped into the “frontline coaching role.”
The Chiefs have three games left of a disastrous campaign, hosting Northampton on May 11, visiting the Harlekins seven days later, and entertaining the sale on May 31.
They are currently ninth in the Premiership, with only Newcastle underneath, drifting 17 points over the eighth placement Kin.
After Gloucester’s defeat, Hunter told reporters it was “the worst day I’ve ever had as a coach.”

Hunter said:
“There is no hiding, we are not trying to hide it from it in the changing room.
“Obviously we went under an avalanche of pressure and strength from Gloucester and wilted under it, not in the case of going back to the drawings.
“We’re not going to run away from this. We’re going to sit all week and simmer until we play the next game. No one’s looking for arms around.”
Gloucester hit the victory and stayed on the course for a potential playoff, with alternative hooker Jack Singleton scoring three tries in 10 minutes.
