John Elway in the golf cart during a tragic fall of a friend… possibly behind the wheel

NFL legend John Elway was in the middle of a golf cart accident that left his longtime friend on life support, so he might have been driving… TMZ Sports learned.
Elway was on a golf cart in La Quinta, California on Saturday evening when John’s business partner and former agent Jeff Sperbeck fell from behind a moving vehicle, turning his head around on asphalt, according to law enforcement and other sources…
John, Jeff and their wife had attended the Stage Coach Music Festival earlier that day in nearby Indio and had left the postparty when the accident occurred.
John is said to have called 911 shortly after the accident…and when paramedics arrived, Jeff was unconscious, but still breathing. The 61-year-old was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
Sources now show that John was actually driving a golf cart, but he couldn’t confirm that with Elway. There is no indication that he has done anything wrong.
No one else was injured in an accident that took place on the private golf community premises.
On all accounts, paramedics and hospital staff did everything they could to save Jeff, but as TMZ Sports first reported… the prognosis is not good. He is said to be on life support as doctors prepare to harvest his organs for donations.
John and Jeff remained close friends after Elway retired from the NFL and launched the 7cellars Winery together in 2013.
