Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ahmed Moalim Fik has held a high-level meeting with Ramon Adebayo, newly appointed interim special representative of the Chair of the African Union Committee (SRCC) in Somalia (SRCC).
The conference held in Mogadishu focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Somalia and Somalia’s African Union support and stabilization mission (Osom), and in particular joint efforts to combat terrorist group Al-Shabaab.
Both sides highlighted the importance of coordinated strategies to ensure long-term peace and stability in Somalia and the broader African region.
Minister Fiqui has congratulated Adebayo on his new role and reaffirmed the Somali government’s commitment to defeating Al-Shabaab and working closely with the African Union to promote national reconciliation.
He also expressed his gratitude for the sacrifices made by Orthom and his military agreement states in supporting Somalia’s security transition.
In his remarks, Adebayo pledged his continued support for the Somali people and government of the African Union at this critical time.
He highlighted the AU’s preparations to deepen its partnership with Somalia in terms of politics, security and development.
The conference reflects ongoing diplomatic engagement as Somalia moves towards assuming full responsibility for the national security and development agenda.
