The troops of six divisions of the Nigerian Army arrested 23 suspected oil thieves and invalidated 13 artisan refineries during an intensifying operation throughout the Niger Delta region.
The operation carried out between April 21st and 27th, 2025 led to the confiscation of more than 180,000 litres of stolen petroleum products. The Deputy Director of the Army Public Relations of the 6th Division revealed this in a statement issued Monday in Port Harcourt.
Lt. Col. Dhanjuma said the operation has spread across the river, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Abia and Delta countries, and as an army working synergistically with other security agencies, maintained offensive crackdowns on oil theft and related crimes.
He cited Major General Emmanuel Eric Emeca’s Commander (GOC) 6 Division. The GOC also appealed to residents of Niger Delta to support their military efforts by providing reliable information about criminal conduct.
The Daily Trust reports that a fatal explosion at a site used to store illegally refined crude oil at OGBA/EGBEMA/NDONI LGA last weekend has killed four people.
