The Rockets first took care of the business, defeating the Golden State Warriors 131-116, forcing Game 6. Houston jumped to a 40-26 lead after the first quarter, and still managed to win a key victory even after the Golden State bench was 13 points remaining at 5:01.
Fred VanVito led the Rockets with 26 points, while Amen Thompson had 25 points and five steals, becoming the first player in the playoff game since 1993’s Charles Berkeley with 25 points, five steals and three blocks.
Moses Moody led the Warriors with 19 points. Stephen Curry has only 13 points, the least in Curry with the opportunity to pack up the series of his career. Game 6 will take place at Chase Centre on Friday.
In the second matchup, the Timberwolves were on a 116-113 victory over the Lakers, with Anthony Edwards scoring 43 points. Minnesota had fallen 94-84 in the fourth quarter, but found a defensively in the second gear and limited the Lakers to 19 points in the final frame. The Lakers have declined with the stretch of this series. They are outscored totaling 105-69 in all four quarters.
In Game 4, coach JJ Reddick used the same five players throughout the second half. LeBron James, Lukadon Sic, Austin Reeves, Louis Facimura, and Dorian Finney Smith. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, when they entered Sunday, there were no teams since 1997-98. Only the same five players were played in half of the playoff games.
