Addis Ababa – On Wednesday, the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) announced Gabon’s recovery to union families.
Gabon’s reinstatement came after the council considered the country’s political transition and process at 1,277 meetings.
Otengo said that as a result, the AU lifted all sanctions and welcomed Gabon to full participation in the union’s activities.
Gabon was suspended from the AU on August 30, 2023 following an unconstitutional change in the government.
“On behalf of Gabon’s return to Gabon, Bliss Clotea Oligui Nuguema, who is Gabon’s return to his great family, I take pride and pride in the Gabon people.”
With the elimination of these sanctions, Gabon will regain its status within the African community and expand its participation internationally, the Minister emphasized.
Gabon is now able to actively participate in major international conferences hosted by the AU and its partners.
Following the August 30, 2023 coup, after leading General Brice Clotaire Oligui nuema to power, Gabon faced several sanctions, including those imposed by the AU.
The country has since returned to constitutional order after the recent presidential election. There, interim leader NGUEMA secured a landslide victory with a 94.85% vote.
The official inauguration ceremony for the presidential election is scheduled for May 3rd in Libreville, the country’s capital of Central Africa.
