Abia Governor Alex Otti has rejected speculation that he plans to abandon Labour for all Progressive Congress (APC).
The rumored asylum plan by Gov. Otti has recently swirled after “tsunami exile” that took over the age-long structure of people’s Democrats in Delta.
During the official reception ceremony, Delta Governor Ifani Okova said he and his successor, Governor Obolebwari, joined the APC and connected the Delta state to Aso Lock, a seat for electricity.
However, in an interview with Alice Television, Governor Abia state did not laugh at the idea of joining the ruling party to get closer to the president.
Otti said there is no need for the APC to be flawed to get closer to power, adding that no one needs to join the ruling party.
He said, “Governor Otti has not dropped out and my party is not on the precarious ground.”
When asked if he needed to decamp to get closer to the center like Okowa and Obolevwai did, Otti said, “I’m even closer to the center than some of them.”
“It was a democracy and President Bora Ahmed Tinubu held his Democracy Alliance (AD), Action Conference (AC) Action Conference (ACN), before becoming APC.
Given the leadership crisis at LP, Otti is unsure of his future with the party. When asked if he would leave Labour, the governor said, “I am not God. I can’t say if there is no LP tomorrow.”
During his political journey, Governor Otti moved from the PDP to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and then to the APC before joining the LP, the party that brought power in 2023.
