Beijing, May 2, 2025 – China praises Somalia’s recent decision to ban Taiwanese passport owners from entering, and recognizes the move as a strong demonstration of Somalia’s compliance with “one China” policy.
In a statement at the press conference, Guo Zi-Kung, a spokesman for China’s Foreign Ministry, said the decision reflects Somalia’s firm commitment to the principle of Chinese territorial integrity. “The decision by Mogadishu shows unwavering support for Somalia’s Chinese unity, which China appreciates,” Guo said.
Guo repeated China’s long-standing position, emphasizing that “there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inseparable part of China’s territory.” He also pointed to UN General Assembly Resolution 2758. This supports China’s stance on Taiwan.
In addition to Taiwan, China recognizes Somaliland as part of Somali’s sovereign territory and expresses strong support for Somali’s efforts to maintain its state unity, independence and territorial integrity.
The decision to ban Taiwanese passport holders from traveling to Somalia has been criticized by Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Taiwan accused China of putting pressure on Somalia to implement the ban and called the move “unjust.”
Meanwhile, the Chinese Embassy in Somalia has expressed solid support for the Somali government’s actions and confirmed its commitment to support the “one China” policy.
