Cole Palmer fought back against the “social media idiot” after ending the drought in his goal after a 3-1 victory over Liverpool on Sunday.
The Bruce came in fifth in the Premier League after beating the champion at Stamford Bridge, leading 2–0 from his own goal in the 56th minute by Enzo Fernandez and Jarrel Cuanza.
Virgil van Dyke halved the deficit, but Palmer stroked a stop-time penalty to find the net for the first time in 13 games.
Palmer scored 36 goals and registered 17 assists from his first 54 appearances, but he had no two assists and goals in 12 matches before facing Liverpool.
Palmer told Sky Sports after his victory:
“Social media these days is full of idiots. I don’t pay attention to it. I scored today, but I just have to be happy, try to get a new level with just one. I get a chance. I feel like I won’t let my team down.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot made six changes to the lineup after securing his Premier League title last weekend, but denied that the team had removed the standard.
“I didn’t see a drop-off on a lot of things,” Slot said. “Today we got to see why we won this league, we pulled the ball out of our backs really well.
“We went back 2-0 down and didn’t give up, but as I said before, the margins are small. We didn’t have a few percentages for a while.”
