NAIROBI – Detectives have arrested two more suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of Kassipur MP Charles Ong.
The councillor was shot dead on April 30th on suspicion of targeted assassination near a roundabout at a city funeral in Nairobi.
The Criminal Investigation Bureau (DCI) on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of Edwin Odour Odianbo, also known as Abdul Rashid, and Dennis Vie Munyasi.
After his arrest, DCI said the suspect led investigators to Odianbo’s residence.
Officers also seized nine rounds of 9mm ammunition during the surgery.
In addition to the firearms, detectives recovered bags and footwear that were thought to fit the items worn by one of the suspects at the scene of the shooting.
“A bag and footwear that matched the description of the person worn by one of the suspects at the scene of the incident were also recovered,” DCI said.
All items recovered were submitted for forensic analysis as part of an ongoing investigation.
The agency thanked the family and friends of the late MP for being members of the public for their continued support and provision of information relating to the incident.
DCI appealed to anyone with further information to contact the nearest police station or to contact them via toll free number 999, 112 or #fichuakwadci (0800 722 203).
He reassured the public about their commitment to ensuring justice, and committed to publishing more updates as the investigation progressed.
The arrest comes two days after four suspects related to Kasipul MP’s murder were arrested at JKIA Law Court, but they did not formally read the charges.

Magistrate Irene Gichovi granted 30 days of prosecutors to complete the investigation.
Prosecutors said the time would help track more suspects, including officers who were believed to have adjusted hits using registered mobile lines under false identities.
Police say Newt, who allegedly fired the fatal shot, was arrested in Roythambu along with two other suspects before leading the fugitive’s home to the detective’s home.

Prosecutors said they were analyzing CCTV footage of a newt chasing a town MP while carrying a bag that appears to be hiding a gun.
He was also wearing police boots found at Hikaru’s residence. Find discovered ammunition, tear canisters, police uniforms, over $4,800, and several phones.
Posthumous results by government pathologists Dr. Johansen O’Dour confirmed that the MP had died from excessive bleeding after being shot five times in the chest. Investigators believe the murders were coordinated by a well-funded criminal network.
More suspects are being pursued, including the Boda Border Rider who helped escape.
Police have described the incident as complicated and more operations are being planned in HOMA Bay and other counties.
