President Lazarus Chakwella and First Lady Monica Chakwella have expanded their heartfelt celebrations to Cardinal Robert F. Prebru, the newly elected Pope of the Roman Catholic Church.
In a cheerful statement from the state House, President Chakwera described the Pope’s acceptance of the sacred mantle as a powerful testimony of “a deep faith and servant leader in a world that longs for hope.” He added that millions of people around the world are celebrating this moment of divine grace, unity and spiritual renewal.
“A country deeply rooted in faith and moral values, Malawi stands in spiritual solidarity with Pope Leo XIV,” reads part of the statement. “We provide support in our prayer as he shepherds the Church with humility, wisdom and love.”
For those new to the new Pope, Pope Leo X49 is 69 years old and is a man of the world. Born in Chicago, he walked the path of a missionary in South America, gaining the respect of the Peruvian community, where he served as bishop, held an influential position in the Vatican, and most recently oversaw the appointment of bishops around the world.
Stepping into the foot through dual citizenship in both the US and Latin America, Pope Leo XIV brings a rich blend of idyllic care and international insights. Many hope that he will advance the torch of reforms that was fired by his predecessor, Pope Francis.
A new chapter begins and the world is looking with hope.
