A total of 16 Namibian companies have expressed interest in helping to establish a national airline.
On Friday, Ministry of Works spokesman Julius Ngweda said, “We are deeply grateful for the enthusiastic response and drive of the public to support this important public effort.
“The Ministry wants to inform the public that a dedicated technical committee has been established to guide the process of establishing a national airline.
“This committee is made up of individuals with expertise and expertise in various areas of aviation, ensuring a thorough and informed approach to this complex business.”
Air Namibia, a former national airline in Namibia, was liquidated in 2021, and plans to establish a new national airline by December 2026 were announced by the government earlier this year.
Workplace and Transport Minister Veiko Nekundi said last month that the new airline will make a significant contribution to the country’s economy.
“Air Namibia hasn’t returned. We have not revived Namibia. We have brought back national airlines and Namibia is not Air Namibia. They are two different things. Air Namibia is gone.
Ngweda said on Friday that the Technical Committee is actively involved in discussing the establishment of the airline within its assigned time frame.
“These meetings are important in laying the foundations for sustainable and successful domestic airlines that serve Namibia’s greatest interests. It is important to repeat that the establishment of a new national airline is a matter of national interest.

“The ministry and the Technical Committee are fully aware of the high level of interest that exists across the nation, covering both valuable joint proposals and simple desire to contribute,” he said.
He explained that while the ministry appreciates the public’s active involvement, the Technical Committee will strategically contact the state with advice and support when necessary.
The committee will launch these outreach efforts at the appropriate stages of the process, ensuring that public opinion is effectively integrated into planning and development.
“Therefore, there’s no need for individuals to reach out on a daily basis,” Ngweda said.
