Donald Trump says he will talk about ending the war in Ukraine with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on Monday.
In a post about the True Society, the US president said he would speak to Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelensky and leaders of several NATO countries.
Russia and Ukraine were unable to reach a breakthrough when they held their first in-person meeting in Istanbul in three years on Friday, but an exchange of prisoners was agreed.
The US President had offered to attend consultations in Turkey if Putin also went, but his Russian counterpart did not accept the offer.
Trump’s comments come after he proposed Thursday that it would only happen if he and Putin held face-to-face consultations on Thursday.
“Hopefully it will be a productive day, a ceasefire will occur, and this very violent war, a war that would never have happened,” Trump wrote on Saturday.
NATO leaders have urged Russia to agree to a 30-day ceasefire in conflict.
After talks in Istanbul, Ukraine repeatedly called for a complete and unconditional ceasefire.
Putin’s assistant vice-president Vladimir Medinsky, head of the Russian delegation, said the Russian delegation was pleased with the consultation and ready to continue contacting them.
A few hours later, a Russian drone crashed into a passenger bus in the Smie area, killing nine people.
He said the attack on the bus was “deliberate killing of civilians.” Russia has not commented, but state media reported that the troops had been attacked by a “military stage” in Smee Province.
Russia began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
