RIMOUKI, Quebec – Philadelphia Flyers’ Prospect Denver Barkey scored twice in their second term, while the London Knights defeated the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-1 in their third Memorial Cup title on Saturday night.
Jacob Julian and Easton Cowan also scored, with Austin Elliott making 31 saves and won the Junior Hockey Championship a year later after the Ontario Hockey League champions hosted Saginaw.
After a 3-1 loss to Western Hockey League champion Medicine Hat on Tuesday night in round robin play, London set up a rematch with the Tigers by beating Moncton 5-2 in the semi-final match on Friday night.
London also won the Memorial Cup in 2005 and 2016. The Knights are owned by former NHL players Dale, Mark Hunter and Basil McClair, who serves President and Coach and Mark Hunter as general manager. Dale Hunter won the third title to match the record of former Kamloops and Vancouver coach Don Hay.
Medicine Hat star Gavin McKenna ruined Elliott’s shutout bid early in the third term, with Harrison Mennegan stopping 20 shots for the Tigers. They won the Memorial Cup in 1987 and 1988.
Julian opened up a score midway through the first period. Toronto’s first pick, Cowan and Burkey scored early in the second in a 1:40 span, with Burkey recording it 4-0 on power play with 7:52 remaining in the period.
