The BBC has launched a Polish news service to reach new audiences with trusted content.
Starting on Tuesday, bbc.com/polska will provide independent, unbiased news through texts, videos and social channels for Polish-speaking audiences.
The purpose of Polish news services is to counter the “storm of disinformation” by Jonathan Munro, global director and deputy CEO of BBC News.
He said BBC News Polska will provide viewers with “trusted content” in an era of “an ever-growing attack on media freedom, democracy and local security.”
This is part of the BBC strategy to reach more viewers and “advance the case for democratic values,” Munro added.
BBC News Polska uses AI translation technology to provide the best BBC journalism and original reports, as well as regional angles and analysis created by a team of Polish-speaking journalists.
While the pilot initiative comes from existing budgets, BBC World Services “needs long-term sustainable funding arrangements… to ensure global public services journalism for the future,” Munro said.
The new service brings together the BBC’s finest global and regional journalism, “an effective practice of being responsible and working innovatively with AI,” says Fiona Crack, Associate Global Director of the BBC.
The BBC currently reaches approximately 5.1 million people each week. This amounts to about a fifth of the country’s adult population through the BBC News TV channel and the global digital news platform BBC.com.
