A explosion occurred at a Russian ammunition depot east of Moscow, military authorities and local media reported.
The explosion in the ammunition warehouse took place on Tuesday at a defence facility in the western region of Vladimir. This site is considered to be an important ammunition storage site for the Russian military.
Russian troops reported the explosion, saying the ammunition exploded after the storage building started a fire due to a “safety violation.”
An emergency has been declared in the Kirchach district, with residents of nearby villages evacuating.
Both the Russian and Ukrainian media channels and Telegram accounts have posted videos and photos from the site, showing violent flames with meter high frames and mushroom clouds from the explosion.
Russian media said the Ministry of Defense “Ammunition stored in warehouses exploded as a result of a fire in the territory of military forces in the Vladimir region.”
The site is located at Arsenal No. 51 of the major missile and artillery departments about 130 kilometers (80 miles) northeast of the Russian capital, local media reported.
The governor of Vladimir region said an explosion occurred in the district and details will be made public later.
Alexander Avdeyev also threatened journalists and residents who would be fined for sharing informal information about the blast.
